This evening I had an event with the company. The company I work for is a big bank in the Netherlands. Worldwide there are approx. 70.000 people working for the company. This moment, almost 6.000 people have to leave the company, due to the less profit the company is making (for the stockholders). Tonight, a huge country wide event was held to present the new bank, the new view for the future and explain why the reorganisation is done.
It was a huge LIVE show at 8 locations nationwide with 12.000 visitors. Famous tv-talkshow hosts like Paul Witteman, Harmen Siezen, Gijs Wanders, Victor DeConinck, Elleke van Doorn, Tom Egbers, Hanneke Groenteman and Humberto Tan. There were several interviews with leading managers from the company, giving their view on the current state and future of the company. This was very interresting. My business, Internet, was (as expected) presented as one of the channels for the future, together with the Phonebanking. All presented into an election-look-a-like live show. Very well done, and very interesting.
One of the highlights was the interview Witteman had with our CEO. The plan of the reorganisation was very bold presented to the employees, both according to us and according to our big companies Ceo’s (and the public opinion / press). When being asked if the way the reorganisation was presented in an not so tackfull way, he didn’t admit it. He continued to argue that it was done right. The crowd didn’t accept his comment and he had difficulties to be heard…. But he didn’t give in. This didn’t make him very popular, and in the end he continued to defend the fact that making profit for the stockholders is one of the most importants things for the company. You can imagine that this was not the best reply he could give at an event like this, and for this crowd….
On my home I saw this pictured tram, lighted with x-mas decorations including little lights…
