The flying rat (de vliegende rat)
I just read a story about the many pigeons in Amsterdam. To some people, their live is really terrible, due to the fact they are surrounded by to many pigeons. It appears that once you have pigeons near your house, balcony or trees, they will alway’s come back. Pigeons allways return to the place the were born. People get crazy from the noice they can make. Not to forget all the shit they drop everywhere. Most funny part from the article was they end; a recipe for pigeon soup. If it’s a succes, the pigeon problem will be solved soon…
Pigeon soup
The ingredients are: 2 pigeons (or else a dove), 100 gms. of stale bread, a good cup of stock for each person and the necessary quantity of butter, cheese, tomato sauce, salf.
Cut the pigeons into 4 pieces and cook them, on a low flame, together with their offals, butter, chopped celery, tomato sauce diluted with little water and abudant butter. If necessary, moisten with some stock. Leave the pigeons to cook for quite a long time, then bone and cut them into pieces. Leave them to rest with their offal in the gravy. Sparately boil for 15 minutes the bones in some stock, possibly of meat and hen. Then butter a baking-pan carefully and line its base with very thin slices of bread just, moistened with stock. Arrange some pieces of the pigeons over the bread, pour some gravy and abundant grated cheese on. Cover the lot with another layer of bread and go on in the same way, until the baking-pan is filled up. Finish with a layer of bread. Press lightly the lot and bake in a medium hot oven for about 4 hours.
