Prize
The German photography-couple Bernd and Hilla Becher received yesterday the Dutch Erasmus Prize 2002 . The prize is awarded to them because they can be regarded as the founders of the new, recording photography. By their approach of photographic registration – reducing the pre-eminently sober, black and white concept to its essence – they have again and again bridged the gap with the visual arts. They have constantly developed and deepened this concept.

I’m sure you all have seen their pictures before. They’ve been shown on several exhibitions all over the world for the last 30 years or so. I’ve allways been fascinated by these beautiful industrial black-and-white pictures. Have a look at more pictures of them through Google images search .
Weather is getting rough at the moment here. Paris is being flooded and Britain gets a little tornado . I’m happy to stay in this evening…
Saw a bit of television this evening. Noticed that with the arrival of the euro (alt-0128 >> €), it’s easier to understand the value of prices they have in Italian, Spanish, German, French and Belgium gameshows and newsitems. Didn’t realise that before… Tomorrow is the last day Dutch guilders can be used in shops. Have to check my drawers for ‘old money’ and bring it to the bank soon…
