De Gamles By is located on Alléen near Nørre Allé on Nørrebro in Copenhagen, Denmark.
De Gamles By or The Old Town defines an area of nursing homes and elderly homes at Nørre Allé in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. It is also encircled by Guldbergsgade, Sjællandsgade and Møllegade.
The name De Gamles By was formed in 1919 by the merger of Almindelige Hospitals buildings from 1892 and the Københavns Alderdomshjem, built in 1901.
The oldest buildings in De Gamles By came from 1892 when Vilhelm Petersen built the Almindeligt Hospitals, and in 1901 when Gotfred Tvede added the retirement home Salem. Later, the area was expanded by the Stadsarkitektens Direktorat in 1946-60, and subsequently up to modern standards by a reconstruction in 1992-99 by architect Mogens Werliin.
Almindelige Hospitals was then taken on in the buildings of the Sankt Johannes Stiftelsens in Ryesgade, which later changed its name to Plejehjemmet Nørre Hospital, then to the current Plejecentret Sølund.
