Hovås Kallbadhus is located south of Göteborg in Hovås, Askim. According to the people who live and work here, one of earth’s most beautiful places. It does not matter if the sun is shining or the rain is pouring down and the wind whips. Beautiful and powerful it is; or what a visitor to Hovås Kallbadhus recently said: “This is a place that gives you energy!”

2015 - Hovas Kallbadhus 02

Many who come here for the first time is quite amazed that this place is within reach and yet they have not known about it. The dimensions of Göteborg’s long, sandy beach, rows of white boathouses, cliffs and dunes, Askim Fjord, Gothenburg archipelago and beyond the islands… the open sea. This is a place to enjoy year round.

Søren Kierkegaards Plads is a harbourside public square on Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It occupies a strip of waterfront between the Black Diamond, whose main entrance faces the square, and the Frederiksholm Canal. Away from the water, the square is faced by Christian IV’s Brewhouse as well as his old arsenal, now housing the Royal Military Museum. The thoroughfare Christians Brygge runs through the square which is connected to the water by “ghats” which also serve as seating for spectators for the occasional performances on a floating stage in the harbour basin.

It was laid out in 1999 in connection with the construction of the adjacent Black Diamond.

2015 - Christian 4s Bryghus

The large brickstone building is Christian IV’s Brewhouse (Danish: Christian IV’s Bryghus), dating from 1608. In spite of the name under which it is known today, the building was not originally built for the purpose of brewing beer. It is located on Slotsholmen by the harbourfront and was constructed for military purposes as a corner bastion, part of Christian IV’s fortification of the city.

In 1443, Christopher of Bavaria established a brewery at Copenhagen Castle. It was called Kongens Bryghus (English: The King’s Brewhouse), and supplied beer for the king’s own household and the Royal Court. Production was expanded with another brewery, located at the end of Østergade, which burned down in 1540. A new Brewhose was built at Slotsholmen, supplying beer until yet another fire devastated the building.

2015 - Søren Kierkegaards Plads from the plane

Christian IV’s Brewhouse was built for defensive purposes, part of his fortification of the city. Already eight years later, the building had lost its military significance due to the construction of the artificial island Christianshavn with its extensive system of ramparts and bastions. Upon royal order, the building was then taken into use by Kongens Bryghus. For this purpose the building was capped with a high shale roof with steep gables over the massive walls.

In 1923, Kongens Bryghus moved to new premises, while the old buildings were used as a warehouse until 1960 when it burned down. The site, located next to Christian IV’s Brewhose, is still known as Bryghusgrunden (English: The Brewhouse Site). It has remained undeveloped, though the Realdania Foundation has plans to build a mixed-use property designed by Rem Koolhaas on the lot.

Takkelloftvej is a street in central Copenhagen, the street is located just behind The Royal Danish Opera House on the island Holmen. The specific part of the island where the Takkelloftvej is located is named Frederiksholm. The building block with houses as seen in the photos used to be called Takkelloftet, these are 280 meters long and built between 1767 and 1772 for storing ropes for the navy.

Around 1750, further reclamations created two small islands south of Nyholm, Balastøen (English: The Ballast Island) and Ankerøen (English: The Anchor Island), along with a larger island, Langøen (English: The Long Island). Bridges were built from Nyholm to Ballastøen, from Ballastøen to Ankerøen and from Ankerøen to Langøen. From Langøen’s southern tip, a bridge was built to Arsenaløen. This happened towards the end of the 18th century. At this point, all of Holmen’s islands were connected. East from Langøen, an atoll was found called “Mudderøen (English: The Mud Island). This area was reclamed and annexed to Langeø, which at this stage was renamed Frederiksholm. In 1789 Frederiksholm had reached its current size.

The original intention was to use the new area for barracks for Navy personnel, but this plan was abandoned. Instead, a number of other buildings were built on the island, including storages for ship masts. After the Gunboat War, a row of boathouses were made for the storage of gunboats.

When Gammelholm was finally decommissioned by the Navy in 1869, most activities were moved to Frederiksholm, and in 1918 the shipyard at Nyholm was moved to Frederiksholm and the adjoining Dokøen.

From 1690 to 1993 Holmen was the main base of the Royal Danish Navy. After World War II, two new bases was established in Korsør and Frederikshavn but even though more and more activities were relocated there, Holmen retained its status. In 1981 the naval ship yard closed. On 1 May 1993, the Holmen Naval Base was closed.

Since the Navy closed down its activities and Holmen was released for redevelopment, Holmen has become home to one of the largest creative clusters in Copenhagen. A Centre for Creative Educations has been established on the eas side of Frederiksholm, mostly in converted naval buildings. It encompasses the Design School, the Architecture School, the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, the Danish Film School and the Theatre & Contemporary Dance School. They are all located in buildings of the former naval shipyard along the eastern shore of Frederiksholm.

The 32 former Gunboat Sheds today house small business mainly in the creative sector, such advertising agencies, media houses and architectural practises.

Altes Rathaus is the historic town hall of Lindau, an old city at the Bodensee in the south of Germany. Here it is seen from the Bismarckplatz. Lindau is a major Bavarian town and an island on the eastern side of Lake Constance, a freshwater lake called Bodensee in German. It is the capital of the Landkreis or rural district of Lindau, near the borders of Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland (St. Gallen and Thurgau). Lindau is part of Bavarian Swabia. The coat of arms of Lindau town is a lime tree. The historic town of Lindau is located on an 0.68-square-kilometre (0.26 sq mi) island, which is connected with the mainland by a road-traffic bridge and a railway dam leading to Lindau station.

Many would like to see old houses could tell – have all the things that saw their windows and seen the rooms. Lindau has such a building: the Old Town Hall in Maximilianstrasse and Bismarckplatz. Gorgeous, proud and colorful, it is at the heart of the island, its large wooden staircase inviting facing toward Bismarckplatz – as it really urge you on, and to discover a piece of history in Lindauer history.

The town hall was built in the Gothic style in 1422 – 14 years lasted work on the impressive building. A few decades later, the building underwent one of its many historic moments: Maximilian I appointed in 1496 to the Reichstag in the wood-paneled Council Chamber.

In July 1655 was the first time the Lindauer children’s festival at the town hall – the foundation stone of a wonderful tradition that still endures: Festive dressed girls and boys from all over the city draw with flags and music to the Old Town Hall to cheers Lindau leave. In addition to Butsch Ellen, a traditional sweet pastry, the children will also get vouchers for the subsequently occurring festival paid – and every year it seems that radiate the venerable town hall while the girls and boys around the bet.

Significantly less harmonious it went to 1930, when the building’s facade should be redesigned. For years there have been discussions about the funding and the desired images, and had ultimately completed when the artist Wilhelm Nida-Rümelin his work, it came to a head: In addition to farmers, fishermen, a sea monster and the traditional linden trees Nida-Rümelin had also mapped a Totentanz : the battle between heaven and earth – symbolized by a skeleton and a young, naked woman! Such a showy display of eroticism was unacceptable was the Bavarian People’s Party, and demanded the immediate removal of the paint.

Whether this appeal was successful? Just look even after! And do not forget the back of the building is not: to the south you will find further pictures friezes and a historical sundial and the entrance to the kingdom Formerly Municipal Library (ERB). Similarly, if you’re wondering what it probably has the “Herald bay” at the Old Town Hall to be here, we have the answer: From the Herald bay from informed to earlier times, the city leaders to their citizens about decisions and new regulations. And today is reminiscent of the bay to the fundamental Christian values: On its screens the Ten Commandments are depicted.

The rooms of the Old Town Hall are still regularly used for meetings of the city council and the committees as well as receptions.

The 1971 ESC
Presented at the 1971 Paris Auto Show, Coggiola’s Volvo 1800-based ESC prototype was technically built for studying safety and comfort. While not extreme in styling, a unique feature was the front grille which extended onto the lower portion of the hood.

1971 - Volvo 1800 ESC Viking Concept by Coggiola on Paris Motor Show 1971

1971 – Volvo 1800 ESC Viking Concept by Coggiola on Paris Motor Show 1971

This unique prototype presented by Carrozzeria Coggiola at the 1971 Paris Motor Show, is based at the Volvo 1800 ES Coupe chassis whose body recently underwend an important re-design. The production underbody was modified, but appropriate solutions allowed a better exploitation of its dimensions and structural features,to the ends of a substantial increase in interior roominess. Interior completely lined with leather and A/C.

The Coggiola Volvo prototype bodywork done in sheet-steel with paneling applied to a boxed framework. The front and structure feautures a defferentied resistance which, together with front overhang increace passenger compartment in case of head-on collision. The pop-out headlights future a special patended opening device (hydraulic pedal-operated). The main dimensions of the Volvo Coggiola 2+2 Coupe are : Legnth 4465mm, Width 1705, Height 1265mm and wheelbase 2450mm.

Design by Coggiola
Sergio Coggiola (1928 – 1989) started in 1966 his own design studio after having worked for 14 years at the Turin-based Italian bodywork designer Ghia (where Pietro Frua was his manager). He participated in the development of the successor to the 1800S – prototype “beach car” was his suggestion to the car that would then be called “Sport Wagon” with the designation 1800ES.

sw1258

Coggiola was then commissioned to modify the proposal for what would later become the over 8 000 copies series produced 1800ES.

The 1800 ESC, however, was his first, very own prototype. Despite the name, the ESC – which would bring to mind 1800ES – the ESC a more coupe-like model than the ES. Coggiola used the same chassis as the existing 1800 E, which made the wheelbase etc. were identical. The height is also the same as previously 1800 ES. All mechanical controls internally in the cabin sits on exactly the same spot as its predecessor.

Body comparison between 1800E (solid outline says ES) and ESC prototype. ESC is longer and has more sweeping shapes, which among other things means something better rearward visibility.

Body comparison between 1800E (solid outline says ES) and ESC prototype. ESC is longer and has more sweeping shapes, which among other things means something better rearward visibility.

The look then? Yes, ESC looks like a typical modern car would do in the early 1970s. Gone are the round lines, now it (perhaps with entry into the space age as the starting point?) more squareness, long lines that apply. A paradigm shift had occurred in the bodywork design. ESC was thus very modern at several points – with among others the generous crumple zones on the front and the rear!

1971 Volvo Coupe project directed by Coggiola. Sergio Coggiola worked earlier after the war for Frua and learned here his trade, before founding his own company a few years later.

1971 Volvo Coupe project directed by Coggiola. Sergio Coggiola worked earlier after the war for Frua and learned here his trade, before founding his own company a few years later.

In 1971 the ESC was presented by the international car press as the “The Successor” of the Volvo 1800 ES, all of which expressed high expectations of the model, although most were of the opinion that the basic design in 1800 was itself in need of modernization. English Road & Track wrote that the car with a little larger chassis, should be able to accommodate a 6-cylinder engine, and Volvo should drive the new car with at least 3 liter displacement, and call the series for “Volvo 2000” or the like.

1800 ESC1

But fate decided otherwise, the international oil crises hit at this time, and in a battle where sports cars are no longer comme-il-faut. Now broke the Japanese compact cars developed with energy efficiency, lightweight chassis, functional. Volvo profiled himself starting in the 140 Series as a company with automotive safety first. That in a situation like that launching a thirsty sports car had given the company an unnecessary amount of negative goodwill. On the other hand, had many visitors at the Paris Motor Show in 1971, where 1800ESC appeared together with the 1800E and the new 1800ES, got the impression that the ESC would also manufactured.

71_prot_id_787_4_500

Although Volvo chose not to proceed with the 1800 ESC, it does not mean that the shape of the model as such was rejected – Ferrari 308GTB4 That success was launched in 1973 carry similar traits with ESC. If it were only inspired or brazenly “stole” concept left unsaid. But a great looking car it is. Just as ESC. Today we can only speculate how it had been on the Volvo continued its GT series with the ESC (and perhaps even more cars?), The brand had been more “heavy” and “legendary” then now?

With the “beach car”, 1800ES and draft 1800ESC, established a long collaboration between Volvo and Coggiola, who had a hand in the design in many later Volvo models, eg 262C 164, 760.

Tarragona’s beaches are renowned for their extremely fine, golden sand: hence the region’s name, “Costa Daurada”, which means “Golden Coast” in Catalan. The sand is soft and smooth and will mould to your body, such that all you need to sunbathe is a towel to keep the grains from sticking to your skin. If any sand does stick, simply wait for it to dry and it will fall off on its own. Of course, all of the city’s beaches are also equipped with showers where beach goers can go to freshen up or cool off.

The mild climate means the water is perfect for swimming from June to September, and sun-lovers can lie out or simply stroll along the coast practically all year round. The beaches and coves of the Costa Daurada have long, gradual slopes. Consequently, wading and swimming pose no risk. Simply take basic precautions, such as checking the weather forecast beforehand or making sure that the Red Cross has not raised a yellow or red flag, which would mean that the sea is rough or otherwise unsafe and that you should not stray far from the coast

The low coast is nearly seven kilometres long, forming a straight line of fine, sandy beaches. In addition to the calmness, transparency and pleasant temperature of the sea, another advantage of this tiny corner of the Costa Daurada is the high amount of iodine in the water, which makes it especially healthy.

The coast of El Vendrell was first awarded the European blue flag in 1988 and considered by many to be one of the best beaches in Catalonia. El Vendrell is a great place to sunbathe and to practise all types of water sports. The esplanade of El Vendrell still conserves a few of the nineteenth-century style houses alongside old liqueur warehouses.

The hotel at these photos was the place where the press launch of the New XC90 took place in early 2015.
