Spegeldammen at Bratteråsparken on Propellergången in Göteborg is a location on Eriksberg in Göteborg.

Eriksberg is an area on Hisingen in Göteborg where Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB had their shipyard until bankruptcy in 1979. For over a century the area was dominated by shipbuilding but a crisis in the 1970s destroyed the industry.

Since the collapse of the shipyards, the area has been rebuilt into Göteborg finest modern neighbourhood. The former machinery buildings have been renovated into a hotel with conference facilities. An 84 metre high gantry crane – the Eriksberg crane – stands as a remnant of the area’s shipbuilding past.

A large grass area, now used for apartment buildings, was used for concerts with world class artists around 1986-1990 (when Ullevi was closed for such concerts). Among superstars, Michael Jackson performed in front of 106.000 people for 2 sold out shows during his Bad World Tour in June 11, 12 1988, U2 in 1987, and Rolling Stones and Madonna in 1990.

Nolhagagatan is a street in Alingsås. Alingsås is a locality and the seat of Alingsås Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden.

Geographically the city is situated by the outlet of the small rivulet Säveån into lake Mjörn. Communications are provided by the western main line railroad (Västra stambanan) between Stockholm and Gothenburg, and by motorway through the European route E20. Next to Alingsås you can also find a small village called Sollebrunn.

Alingsås has a rich cultural life, and hosts a few different cultural events throughout the year. In October, Lights in Alingsås is held for one month; 6 European lighting designers get to light up selected sections of the city as they please. To help them, they get about 65 international students of architecture, and together they have one week to create the vision of the lightning designers, whom act as workshop leaders. The public can then either walk the tour themselves or in guided groups, and it has over the years become very popular internationally. The project is a cooperation between Alingsås Kommun and Professional Lighting Designers’ Association since 2000.

In the summer, a festival is hosted by Alingsås Kommun, called Potatisfestivalen. It is a city festival with different activities, such as concerts and performances.

Kullaviks Hamn is a marina or boat harbour at Kullaviksvägen in Kullavik, just 15 kilometers south of Göteborg.

2016-kullaviks-hamn

The name Kullavik was first used officially in 1911. On 1 September the sign at the railway station between Göteborg and Särö was changed. The reason for the name change from the original name Kulle was that the Royal Swedish Post Office mixed up the Swedish name Kulle (which means hill) and with the place Kullen in Skåne. Announced was a competition for a new name for this place. The winner, who suggested the name Kullavik, was Olga Hagkvist from Kullavik.

The community was originally a district with many small farms, but not cultivable land was built after 1904 and the railroad Säröbanans creation scattered cottages that gradually transformed into permanent accommodation. During the 1970s, a large number of modern villas were built and in the 1980s shops and rental apartments came in the centre of Kullavik.

Kullavik was a passing station on the Gothenburg-Särö railway summer and stop in the winter during the steam period until the early 1950s. In winter, there was only one stop when there were no passing clearance between trains. The station was also postal station year-round.

Kullavik defined as urban areas with 679 inhabitants in 1975. In 1980, the population had risen to 1 006. From 1990 counts the urban area as the adult Billdal. In 2005 Kullavik had 6040 inhabitants

The Swedish sailing legend (and designer of the famous Volvo P1800) Pelle Petterson has long been resident in Kullavik and the local sailing club, Kullaviks Kanot- & Kappseglingsklubb has had many prominent sailors over the years in several Swedish sailing classes and many belong to the world’s elite.

Bosjökloster (English: Bosjö Abbey) is located on the shore of Lake Ringsjön in Höör Municipality, Scania, southern Sweden was originally a nunnery, founded in 1080 by the Benedictine Order. The oldest preserved document that mentions Bosjö Abbey was written by Pope Lucius III in 1181, when he confirmed its privileges. According to local legend, the land was donated by Tord Thott, the first known ancestor of the Scanian noble family Thott. The abbey was transformed into a castle in the 16th century, and only parts of the original building remains.

2016-bosjokloster-slott-in-hoor-03

During the Danish Reformation in the 16th century, the nunnery was closed down and the estate became Danish crown property. It was subsequently donated to the former archbishop of Lund, Torbern Bille, under the condition that he took care of the remaining nuns. In 1560 Frederick II of Denmark gave the estate as a barter to the widowed Scanian noble woman Thale Ulfstand. Her initials and the year 1569 are carved into the large oak doors of the entrance and are still visible.

2016-bosjokloster-slott-in-hoor-02

The castle passed to the Beck family through marriage in 1629, but when Jochum Beck lost the family fortune, it was sold to Corfitz Ulfeldt to repay his debts. Ulfeldt was a Danish aristocrat famous for having switched sides. When he showed up at the peace negotiations at the Treaty of Roskilde proceedings to negotiate on behalf of Sweden, he was convicted of treason by a Danish court. Soon thereafter, he was also convicted of treason by a Swedish court, and was forced into exile. His wife Leonora Christina, daughter of Christian IV, was captured in his place by the Danish authorities and was imprisoned in the Blue Tower in Copenhagen for 22 years. The composer Hilding Rosenberg was born here in 1892.

In the garden of Bosjökloster Slott you will find the Tusenårseken or Thousand year oak.

Despite its name, the oak is not a thousand years old, but rather 600-700 years, possibly up to 800 years. This is Skåne’s largest tree with its impressive nine and a half meters in circumference. The tree has been followed for a long time and was preserved in 1967. The tree stands directly west of the castle in Bosjökloster, at the end of the linden alley. At the beginning of the 20th century, the tree was described with a small opening in the trunk that today grew to almost two meters wide. The tree is thus hollow, and dead wood has been removed and the inside burned to extend the life.

Västra gatan is an old street in the old part of Kungälv, a little city just north of Göteborg in Sweden.

According to official Swedish sources the city was founded in 1612, when the city of Konghelle was moved closer to the Bohus Fortress. However, this is disputed because other sources indicate that it was just a strategic relocation of the existing Norwegian city, the capital of Norway at one point under Sigurd I Magnusson, something frequently used for marketing and tourist purposes. For this reason, Kungälv could celebrate its “1000 year anniversary” in 1959.

Sigurd I Magnusson (Sigurd Jorsalfare, i.e., Sigurd the Crusader) was the King of Norway (1103–1130) and is the most well known crusader king of Scandinavia. He was also the first European king to join the crusades at a time where Kungälv was Norwegian territory.

Sigurd returned to Norway in 1111, where he made his capital in Konghelle (in the vicinity of Kungälv in present-day Sweden) and built a castle there, where he kept a relic given to him by King Baldwin, a splinter reputed to be from the True Cross. Sigurd died in 1130 and was buried in Hallvardskirken (Hallvards church) in Oslo, in present-day Norway.

In the 1120s Pomeranian ships from Szczecin (in present-day Poland), from the southern coast of the Baltic Sea attacked the Danish coast. On 10 August 1135 Duke Ratibor assaulted the Norwegian towns. Konghelle, was captured and burnt to the ground by the forces of prince Ratibor, assisted by a fleet of 550 ships with cavalry on board (each carrying forty-four men and two horses). They laid the town to ruins, killed a large part of the population, and abducted most of the survivors as thralls to Szczecin. Snorri Sturluson, writing a century later, said that Konghelle never completely recovered.

The former settlement at Konghelle burned down in 1612, and was subsequently moved by Christian IV of Denmark and Norway to the open slope below Bohus Fortress, and rebuilt as Kongelf.

The Bohus Fortress and the cookie and biscuit factory “Göteborg Kex” are the most popular tourist attractions in Kungälv.

The Tomsarve kvarn can be found at the Ekstakusten on Gotland, Sweden.

The mill is located in Ekstakusten Nature Reserve just north of Skansudde. It was the restored in the early 1990s.

The Ekstakusten is a nature reserve in Eksta parish on the western side of the Gotland island.

The nature reserve covers a distance of 6 kilometers along the coast inside Karlsöarna from Djupvik to Hammarudd, Gotland’s westernmost point.
From Djupvik in the north to Hammer Island in the south extends EkstaKusten Nature Reserve, considered by many as one of the most beautiful places on the island. The coastline is characterized by shingle and further into the country is growing a beach forest of conifers disciplined hard by wind and salt spray.
During a walk along the beach you pass two beautiful fishing villages: Djupvik and Kronvall. In the latter, the spectacle has Kronvall button previously been set up. From Ekstakusten you have a great view toward the Stora and Liten Karlsö.

Sæbraut is a coastal road in the center of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. Sæbraut means in Islandic Sea highway.

Close to this location, you will find a sculpture called Sun Voyager (Icelandic: Sólfar), a work by Jón Gunnar Árnason, located next to the Sæbraut road in Reykjavík, Iceland. Sun Voyager is a dreamboat, an ode to the sun. Intrinsically, it contains within itself the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.

2016-sun-voyager-iceland

There has been some dispute about the eventual location of Sun Voyager on Sæbraut in Reykjavík. Some people have complained that the ship does not face west, towards the setting sun in accordance with the concept behind it. The original intention had been for Sun Voyager to be situated in the west part of Reykjavík, for obvious reasons. Jón Gunnar’s original idea had been for the ship to be placed on Landakot hill, the prow facing the centre of Reykjavík and the stern Landakot church. Another possibility was that it could be placed by the harbour in the centre of Reykjavík on a specially constructed base. The coastline by Ánanaust nonetheless eventually came to be Jón Gunnar’s preferred location for the ship. Unfortunately, changes in the town planning for Reykjavík came to rule out this location. In the end, the final decision was taken (with Jón Gunnar’s consent) that Sun Voyager should be located on Sæbraut on a small headland (which the artist jokingly called Jónsnes: Jón’s Peninsular). Jón Gunnar was well aware that when bolted to its platform, Sun Voyager would be facing north, but felt that that made little difference when it came down to it.

Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It has a latitude of 64°08′ N, making it the world’s northernmost capital of a sovereign state, and is a popular tourist destination. It is located in southwestern Iceland, on the southern shore of Faxa Bay. With a population of around 120,000 (and over 200,000 in the Capital Region), it is the heart of Iceland’s cultural, economic and governmental activity.

Reykjavík is believed to be the location of the first permanent settlement in Iceland, which, according to Ingólfur Arnarson, was established in AD 874. Until the 19th century, there was no urban development in the city location. The city was founded in 1786 as an official trading town and grew steadily over the next decades, as it transformed into a regional and later national centre of commerce, population, and governmental activities. It is among the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities in the world.

The Hen House is located in the township of Fiscavaig on the western side of the Isle of Skye in Scotland, Great Britain. The client sought a small holiday house, simply designed, that respected and connected with the landscape context.

On the architect Rural Design’s first visiting the site it was difficult to see how any proposal could succeed if it disrupted a landscape that did not lend itself to intervention. The gentle undulations present evoked the timeless character of Skye and its underlying geology. Untouched since the Ice Age, it seemed presumptuous that Rural Design, in their short time, should alter the site to suit their own purposes.

2016-the-hen-house-on-isle-of-skye-uk-02

The form of the house deliberately narrows to the north, reducing its surface area, concentrating the view and leaning into the weather, while the cellular support spaces are clustered to the south. The lighthouse in the distance acts as a beacon to draw the focus of the house.

The entrance bridge lifts one off the landscape and immediately upon entering one is drawn to the fully-glazed elevation to the north. Each window on the other elevations has a particular role: high level large windows draw light into the two storey volume while the lower smaller windows provide glimpses of the public side of the building, and frame views to the west.

The structure of the house is deliberately on display and the flying central beam that stiffens the structure provides scale to the large volume. The interior is primarily clad on osb, used to provide racking strength to the timber frame and retained as the finished surface. Space is at a premium as the house is less than 70m2, and built-in plywood furniture incorporates storage and the stairs which lead to the upper level.

2016-the-hen-house-on-isle-of-skye-uk-01

The “Hen House”, as it is know locally, is a uniquely designed low impact holiday house. It sits in a beautiful location overlooking Loch Bracadale on the Isle of Skye. A perfect holiday rental for couples, small families or close friends. In 2010 the striking timber house became the first ever recipient of the Saltire Medal. Featured in the Guardian, Small House Bliss, and the Financial Times 2015. This beautiful contemporary building was designed by Rural Design Architects. The house has appeared on Grand Designs and BBC2 programme, “The House that 100k built” with architect Piers Taylor. Due to the landscape and building Volvo will be using the Hen House as a location for marketing in 2016.

2016-the-hen-house-on-isle-of-skye-uk-00

The Hen House has been built from sustainable materials and where possible wood has been sourced locally. The building has been carefully designed to fit its site, nestling in a dip in front of Loch Bracadale. It has views of the sea Loch and surrounding hills. From the front door you are able to walk directly into the landscape across hills or down to the sea and cliffs.
