The Rock House is a modern villa on Adelsön in the outskirts of Stockholm on Lake Mälaren.

Munsö is a little village and an island in the Ekerö Municipality located on the island Munsön.

West of Munsö is Väsby Hage nature reserve and the ferry situation where Sjöängen Trafikverketss cable ferry runs on Adelsö trail to Adelson.

Created by Arkitektstudio Widejdal Racki.

A young couple had seen an article about one of our house and gotten convinced they finally should sell their flat downtown Stockholm and move out to their country house site an hour away.

The site sits dramatically on a shelf on a barren cliff wall. The existing summer house on the property was situated on the middle of this shelf leaving an exposed narrow strip between the house and the drop off as well as a protected strip between the house and the rock. The latter was the most frequently used outdoor area due to the exposed and windy situation.

This strip was however fully cut off from the lake view and the qualities of the site. Our challenge was to build a much larger building and at the same time free more outdoor space preferably protected and with a view. Our suggestion was a house that follows the outer rim of the shelf and at places cantilevers over the drop-off.

2016-rock-house-02

A large protected courtyard was generated and transparency with large glassed sliding doors guaranteed connection between the two sides. On the windy side by the drop off a recessed outdoor balcony with fireplace provides a protected outdoor space. The balcony is connected to the kitchen with a greenhouse, creating an in-between zone for fall and spring. Summertime the glassed walls of the greenhouse can be fully removed or partly closed to block the wind. The building sits firmly on the rock as a labyrinth concrete fortress.

The labyrinthic feeling generated by the complex form guarantees a variation in spactial experience. Besides concrete the glossy wooden ceiling is a main character which helps reflect the glittering water below to add on the almost magical sensation of the site.

The World Maritime University (WMU) is located on Nordenskiöldsgatan and Fiskehamnsgatan in Malmö, Sweden. It is a postgraduate maritime university founded by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations. Established by an IMO Assembly Resolution in 1983, the aim of WMU is to further enhance the objectives and goals of IMO and IMO member states around the world through education, research, and capacity building to ensure safe, secure, and efficient shipping on clean oceans.

In the early 1980s, it was recognized within IMO that there was a shortage of well-qualified, highly educated maritime experts, particularly in lesser developed nations. To address this gap, the IMO endeavored to found an institution to support Member States with the high-level education necessary to implement international Conventions. In determining the institution’s location, then IMO Secretary-General, Dr. C.P. Srivastava, approached the Swedish Ministry of Transport who welcomed the idea and Malmö was determined as the home of the institution. With the financial support of the Swedish government, the City of Malmö, and private donations, WMU was inaugurated on 4 July 1983.

2016-alvsborgsbron2

Architecture firms Terroir and Kim Utzon Arkitekter have created a new building for the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, featuring a jagged facade of glass and aluminium. The project involved the renovation and extension of a century-old harbour master’s building, creating approximately 6,000 square metres of teaching and office spaces for an institution focusing on maritime education and research.
The existing building – known as the Tornhuset – was completed in 1910 as the main office for Malmö’s harbour administration. It was built in the docklands area to offer a panoramic view of shipping activity in the harbour and the Öresund strait.

Di-edersekvensen is a sculpture at Diagonalen on Lindholmen in Göteborg, Sweden.

Di-edersekvensen consists of 12 parts painted steel plates created in 1968-69 and placed at Lindholmen Kaj in 1994.

The artist behind the art piece is Gert Olof Marcus, born November 10, 1914 in Gross Borstel in Hamburg in Germany. He died on December 23, 2008 in Stockholm Gert Marcus was a Swedish painter and sculptor.

Gert Marcus was born in Germany, as the son of a German lawyer Paul Marcus and Swedish Hilda Maria Dahl. He was initially a painter and was interested in how to create distance and volume only with pure colors, ie, without mixing them with black or white.

2016-di-edersekvensen-01

Apart from a few months spent in 1936-37 at Otte Sköld painting school and a period at the Ateneum in Helsinki 1937-38 was Gert Marcus self-taught. He became one of Sweden’s most consistent Concretists, although he refrained from all isms. He lived in Stockholm since 1933, but for long periods he spent in Menton, Brittany, Paris and Massa Carrara in Italy.

He showed an early interest in Paul Cézanne’s paintings, how to create spatial and volume using only pure colors and without the use of Renaissance perspective. This led to Gert Marcus developed a color theory that he would be faithful to his entire oeuvre. In 1955 he met in Paris artists Michel Seuphor, Nicolas Schöffer and Georges Vantongerloo. With the latter, Marcus developed a long and fruitful friendship. The correspondence between them was published in 2000 by the Academy of Arts.

2016-di-edersekvensen-02

During the 1950s, Gert Marcus several large assignments. He made a mosaic wall in St. Michael’s chapel in Mora in 1954, a wall mosaic in the Stockholm police headquarters in 1957, a choir wall in Vantörs Church in Stockholm and a wall mosaic of glass breakage in the Sergel theater foyer 1959. The latter is removed with the intention to set up in a future museum.

Ingareds herrgård is stately lakeside mansion on Sävelången built anno 1890. The property is reached via a beautiful avenue that runs up to the gravel courtyard. Once inside, one is greeted by the grand hall, which rises to the roof ridge, and a splendid open fireplace. The library, billiard room, dining room and salon have views across the park-like garden, which meets all requirements. A spacious kitchen and pantry lie adjacent. The first floor currently houses four bedrooms and three offices, as well as a bathroom and WC. The attic conversion provides a large living room and two bedrooms, one with an open fireplace. The basement is divided into several storage spaces, including a cold store, and has ample space for additions such as a gym or home cinema. The 250 m2 garage has five doors on two levels and provides ample space for any hobby activity. The garage is controlled using smart technology. On the shoreline there is a sandy beach with private beach hut with sauna. Ingared is approximately 25 minutes from Göteborg. The house is privately owned.

2022 – Ingareds Herrgård on Ingaredsgatan in Alingsås.

During the late 1800s, Ingared was basically just a road crossing on a ridge with an inn, gardens, barns, and a manor located by the lake Sävelången. In 1975, Ingared had 393 inhabitants and in 2020 there were 2380 people here and we see an ever-increasing interest in settling here.

In the mid-1970s, the town began to be built up with housing estates and service buildings in the form of a library, primary and middle school, kindergarten, sports hall and shops, which have blossomed during the 1990s. During the early 2000s, Hemsjögården was built on Ingared’s main street, Ingaredsgatan, which is a modern retirement home.

During the late 19th century, the Ture Berg family, who owned large lands in the area, lived at Ingareds Gård. The manor building itself was built in 1896 but underwent a major renovation in 1909. It was then bought by director Forshell with his family, who had five children. Viktor Forshell was director of Sweden’s Förenade Konservfabriker.

2022 – Ingareds Herrgård on Ingaredsgatan in Alingsås.

Viktor Forshell sold Ingared’s farm sometime around 1948 to Director Einar Hellsén, who founded and became managing director of Aktiebolaget Bil & Truck in 1929. The entrance to the manor building was the background for the brochure at the launch of the new exclusive Volvo 164. Director Hellsén was also consul general for Honduras in Gothenburg from 1950. At the time of the takeover, a very large and extensive renovation of the entire property, both exterior and interior, was carried out.

In 1971 the property was sold to a trader in Alingsås who in turn sold it in 1996 to the current owner. The current owner has carried out extensive maintenance when taking over.

In 2022, Ingareds herrgård came on the market for sale by Eklund Stockholm New York real estate brokerage.

2016-ingared-gard-in-alingsas-air

Ingared is a locality in the municipality of Alingsås located about eleven kilometers southwest of the main town along the old road towards Göteborg, Sävelångens at the northwest end, not far from today’s European road E20 and Hemsjö with its famous large church. Ingared consists almost exclusively of residential areas, where the majority commute from there to work in Alingsås, Lerum and Göteborg.

In summer there is a nice beach in Ingared with a jetty and a diving tower.

Ingared was from being little more than a crossroads on top of a ridge, with gästgivieri, gardens, barns, country house and lake to a proper place in the mid-70s, when the entire residential area was built on the surrounding meadows. Along with the necessary service buildings in the form of libraries, elementary school, kindergarten, child care centers, sports and business – deal – they filled in the sparse buildings that had already been in the hilly surroundings south of local road to Norsesund. Since then, it has continuously added new blocks, mainly north and northwest of the local road.

The VIPP Shelter is a compact summerhouse located at Sjön Immeln (Immeln Lake) near Immeln in Skåne, the south of Sweden.

The Vipp Company has made a plug and play getaway that allows you to escape urban chaos in a 55 m2 all-inclusive nature retreat.

75 years of experience with steel processing is used to craft this prefabricated object designed down to last detail. A simple steel grid structurally supports the two level space, where only the bathroom and bed loft is shielded from the main living space. Within the transparent shell, nature is omnipresent yet with a physical blindage that provides shelter. The shelter is a finished product inspired by large volume objects such as planes, ferries and submarines, where every single screw serves a purpose.

2016-vipp-shelter

The driving ambition behind the Vipp shelter was the opportunity to match your kitchen and its accessories to your nature retreat. The result is a plug & play getaway, fully equipped. Morten Bo Jensen, Chief Designer at Vipp, is the creative force behind Vipp’s biggest product to date. Here, he unveils how and why Vipp’s design philosophy can translate into a product family ranging from a bin to a shelter.

Styrfarten is street in Eriksberg in Göteborg, Sweden. Styrfarten leads towards the Maskinkajen, the road across the Göta Älv river which runs through Göteborg towards the sea.

The former ship-yard district on the northern banks of the river has been transformed into wide-stretched quays, new residential areas, restaurants, cafés and theatres. Go for a stroll along the water and see some of the newest neighbourhoods in town, while feeling the breeze from the river.

You can walk along the water all the way from Lindholmen Science Park to the iconic red harbour crane in Eriksberg. Along the way you will pass by the modern residential neighbourhood Sannegårdshamnen that once used to be a coal and salt harbour. Turn left around the small mountain Sörhallsberget and follow the waterfront towards Eriksberg you can soon spot the East Indiaman Götheborg, the ship moored to Pier Four (Pir Fyra). The original ship was launched in 1739 and made three journeys to China before it sank in the sea outside the fortress Nya Älvsborgs fästning. Today’s replica is built to look as similar to the original as possible and on certain days you can enjoy guided tours on board to get to know the history.

The whole walk offers magnificent views of the grand bridge Älvsborgsbron and in several nice restaurants, such as Piga and Tapas by River awaits you in Eriksberg. The old engineering workshop here is today a venue for exhibitions and events (Eriksbergshallen). Quality Hotel 11 is located right next door, in close proximity to the ferry stop Eriksberg.

Gustav III:s paviljong in Solna 🇸🇪

Gustav III’s Pavilion is a royal pavilion at the Haga Park, 2 km north of Stockholm. As a highlight in Swedish art history, the Pavilion is a fine example of the European neoclassicism of the late 18th century in Northern Europe. Beside the Pavilion lie the “Sultan’s Copper Tents”, buildings designed to resemble big tents.

The pavilion was built in 1787 by the architect Olof Tempelman with detailed instructions from King Gustav III who was highly personally involved in the project, producing some basic designs himself and suggesting changes once the work was under way. Theses changes included extending both wings by the span of two windows.

The designer Louis Masreliez– who became a trendsetter in the interior design of the period– was commissioned for the interiors. The pavilion was just one of many great plans and visions that Gustav III had for the Haga Park, many of which made it no further than the drawing board. Gustav III made use of the pavilion for a few years before his assassination. It was from the pavilion that Gustav III left for the fateful masquerade ball at the Opera on 16 March 1792. After the assassination of Gustav III, Duke Charles used the pavilion as his temporary residence.

2016-hagaparken-02

In the 1840s, King Oscar I commissioned a restoration of the building by architect George Theodor Chiewitz. Sculptures and other plasterwork ornamental features were painted grey and added to the façade, which was originally yellow and without decoration. The ionic columns at the gables were replaced by new columns in Italian marble. The glass wall of the Hall of Mirrors was re-worked with new, thin bronze glazing-bars and the outdoor stairway was clad in white marble. The dining room was decorated in a Pompeian style, including the ceiling.

The Pavilion underwent a major restoration between 1937 and 1946 under palace architect Ragnar Hjort. During this time, thanks to the discovery of original Masreliez designs for each room, it was possible to restore the interior to its original form.

In 2005 the pavilion inspired the design of the music pavilion at Stålboga.
