Tyler House is located at the Sherwood Forest Plantation on John Tyler Memorial Highway in Charles City Virginia, USA.

Sherwood Forest Plantation Foundation, is located on the north bank of the James River in Charles City County, Virginia. The main plantation house, built in 1730, was the home of President John Tyler (1790–1862) for the last twenty years of his life. It is located on State Route 5, a scenic byway which runs between the independent cities of Richmond and Williamsburg. The house is located approximately 2.4 km from the river. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961.

John Tyler (March 29, 1790 – January 18, 1862) was the 10th president of the United States, serving from 1841 to 1845, after briefly holding office as the 10th vice president in 1841. He was elected vice president on the 1840 Whig ticket with President William Henry Harrison, succeeding to the presidency after Harrison’s death 31 days after assuming office. Tyler was a stalwart supporter and advocate of states’ rights, including regarding slavery, and he adopted nationalistic policies as president only when they did not infringe on the powers of the states. His unexpected rise to the presidency posed a threat to the presidential ambitions of Henry Clay and other Whig politicians, and left Tyler estranged from both of the nation’s major political parties at the time.

The Wren Building is located at the College of William & Mary on Jamestown Road in Williamsburg, Virginia in USA.

The Wren Building is the signature building of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Along with the Brafferton and President’s House, these buildings form the College’s Ancient Campus. With a construction history dating to 1695, it is the oldest academic building in continuous use in the United States. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960.

The Sir Christopher Wren Building at William & Mary is the oldest college building still standing in the United States and the oldest of the restored public buildings in Williamsburg. It was constructed between 1695 and 1700, before Williamsburg was founded, when the capital of the colony of Virginia was still located at Jamestown, and the tract of land between the James and York rivers which was to become Williamsburg was populated by crude timber buildings and known as “Middle Plantation”.

The Wren Building has been gutted by fire three times — in 1705, 1859 and 1862. Each time the interior of the structure was rebuilt, and for more than three centuries, it has been “the soul of the College.” In the building, generations of William & Mary students have attended classes and lectures, enjoyed meals and attended chapel services. Classes are still held in the Wren Building, which also is home to several faculty offices.

To prepare the Wren Building for its fourth century of use, the university completed a comprehensive renewal and replacement project in 1999-2000. The major components of the project were restoration of the architectural features such as floors and paneling; replacement of mechanical systems; safety upgrades; and repair and stabilization of the walls and foundation.

Today the Wren Building is used as an academic building with housing faculty offices on the third floor and classrooms throughout the building.

Le Mans Raceway was a Track Ride built by US manufacturer Arrow Dynamics formerly located at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA.
Le Mans Raceway officially opened in 1975, along with the park. On June 30, 2006, Busch Gardens Williamsburg announced that Le Mans Raceway would be closing to make room for a new attraction set to open in 2007. Le Mans Raceway would officially close on July 5. Officials gave a loving sendoff to the ride, saying goodbye to the 49 recreated antique racing cars that had traveled nearly 10 million miles in 31 years. After its removal, it would be replaced by Griffon.

Le Mans Raceway, one of the park’s original rides is located in the France section of the park. Since opening to the public in 1975, the ride has been popular with guests of all ages.
The cars, modeled after the 1913 Stutz Bearcat, have molded fiberglass bodies and were built on steel frames in California.
Each is powered by an eight horsepower gasoline engine that has been replaced approximately every five-years due to high ridership and the relative lifespan of a go-cart like engine.
The cars follow one of three 2,000-foot tracks, accumulating a total of nearly 200,000 miles per car since the park opened 31 years ago. The five-gallon fuel tanks are filled each morning and last for 12 hours of continuous driving.
“The mileage total for the entire fleet equates to nearly 400 trips around the Earth or 2600 excursions from New York to Paris,” said Larry Giles, vice president of design and engineering for Busch Gardens Europe and Water Country USA.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg (formerly known as Busch Gardens Europe and Busch Gardens: The Old Country) is a 1.55 km2 amusement park located in James City County near Williamsburg, Virginia, United States. Located approximately 100 km northwest of Virginia Beach, the park was developed by Anheuser-Busch and is now owned by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. It opened on May 16, 1975, adjacent to Anheuser-Busch’s brewery and near its other developments including the Kingsmill Resort complex.

The park is themed to a variety of European country themes and was originally named Busch Gardens: The Old Country.

Looks like that Volvo was sponsor of the Le Mans Raceway?

In 1993, the park was renamed Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and it was briefly named Busch Gardens Europe from 2006–2008. In 2015, an estimated 2.78 million guests attended the park, ranking it twentieth in overall attendance among amusement parks in North America. In addition to its landscaping and European themes, Busch Gardens is widely known for its roller coasters, including Griffon, Loch Ness Monster, Alpengeist, and Apollo’s Chariot, the latter of which was ranked as the fourth best steel coaster in the annual Golden Ticket Awards publication from Amusement Today in 2012.

The Arts District is a neighborhood on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles, California in the United States. The city community planning boundaries are Alameda Street on the west which blends into Little Tokyo, First Street on the north, the Los Angeles River to the east, and Violet Street on the south. Largely composed of industrial buildings dating from the early 20th century, the area has recently been revitalized, and its street scene slowly developed in the early the 21st century. New art galleries have increased recognition of the area amidst the entire downtown where other art museums are found.

In February 2020 the website la-artsdistrict.com was launched to highlight Arts District mural art and artists to the public. It includes a current map of the Arts District and professional photos of the mural artwork found here and in the surrounding downtown LA neighborhoods. Global Angel Wings mural by Colette Miller is located on S Hewitt Street in the Arts District in Los Angeles, USA.

Colette Miller created the “Global Angel Wings Project” in 2012. In the streets of Los Angeles, the city of Angels. They were painted to remind humanity that we are the angels of the earth. They are human sized interactive pubic art wings that people take photos with and thus become part of the artwork.

The first pair was just street art but the response was natural, immediate and spontainious – from people of all sorts and backgrounds. Colette has painted wings globally – Kenya, Australia, CEngland, Japan, France, Cuba, Juarez Mexico, Dubai, Taiwan, and more, and many in the USA.

Though some are commissioned and others gifted, the wings themselves are free to the world. Never owned by anyone, not even Colette, though they are of her provenance and work.

Artist Collete Miller writes on Instagram: These are the wings at the very first location I ever painted them. Downtown LA across from the American hotel . Way back in 2012 . The idea came into my mind as I drove throughLA. I’d been meditating a lot and I started envisioning and imagining huge wings on the walls of places- big enough to interact with . I decided to act on the vision – I thought they could remind humanity of our true selves our divine self- the higher natures of humanKIND- There was a festival that weekend in 2012 and people lined up and a friend, Rolo put a step for kids to use . Two friends who have since left earth helped me that night of painting and both ironically lived across the hall from each other at the #American . Stuart Noble- who also worked with Shepard Fairey helping him wheatpaste his work on the streets and my dearest friend of all Stevie Casual, who helped me not only that day but 18 years of my life everyday in some way ❤️❤️ and still does ❤️.

Park Blvd is located near Hidden Valley, south of the Boys Scout Parking and Intersection Rock, in Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA.

Joshua Tree National Park is an American national park in southeastern California, east of San Bernardino and Los Angeles and north of Palm Springs. It is named after the Joshua trees (Yucca brevifolia) native to the Mojave Desert. Originally declared a national monument in 1936, Joshua Tree was redesignated as a national park in 1994 when the U.S. Congress passed the California Desert Protection Act.

Straddling San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, the park includes parts of two deserts, each an ecosystem whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation: the higher Mojave Desert and the lower Colorado Desert. The Little San Bernardino Mountains traverse the southwest edge of the park.

Several hiking trails are within the park, many of which can be accessed from a campground. Shorter trails, such as the one-mile hike through Hidden Valley, offer a chance to view the beauty of the park without straying too far into the desert. A section of the California Riding and Hiking Trail meanders for 56 km through the western side of the park. The lookout point at Keys View, towards the south of the park, offers views of the Coachella Valley, the Salton Sea, the San Andreas Fault, the Santa Rosa Mountains, and the city of Palm Springs.

Hidden Valley is a self-guiding, one-mile loop trail that winds among massive boulders through what was believed to be a legendary cattle rustlers’ hideout. It is one of the most popular and scenic hiking trails in Joshua Tree National Park. The area is also a popular rock-climbing area. Many visitors enjoy just watching the climbers in action.

Because of the Hidden Valley’s natural encasement, a unique micro-habitat brings together a wide range of plants and animals not typically found together in other sections of the Park. Healthy populations of Joshua Tree, pinyon, juniper and oak share space with mesquite, yucca, nolina, various cacti and other species.

Photo from the article in Volvo Magasin (link to volvocars.com).

According to various sources, In 1936, desert pioneer Bill Keys blasted a notch through the rocks walls to improve access for his cattle herds. Today this serves as Hidden Valley’s main access point.

A nearby campground is available for tenting and small RV’s, 25′ or less.

Waalburg building is located at Burg Street in Cape Town, South Africa.

Waalburg, Sanlam ‘s head office designed by the first Afrikaans architect, Wynand Louw, was built on this valuable plot on the corner of Waal and Burg Streets in Cape Town after the insurance company made an irresistible offer for the land to the shareholders of De Zuid-Afrikaan has.

De Zuid-Afrikaan was the first Dutch newspaper in the true sense of the word in South Africa, although it was preceded by the weekly De Verzamelaar (1826). The premises of the office and printing house of De Zuid-Afrikaan, on the corner of Burg and Waal Streets, became so valuable that the shareholders accepted an offer from the insurance company Sanlam to close the business. The building that Sanlam erected on the prestigious site later became Waalburg and Sanlam housed until the company built its new head office on the recycled Cape beach area, at the time the tallest building in Africa. It later became the headquarters of Naspers and became known as the Naspers Center.

The South African National Life Insurance Company (Sanlam) is a South African financial services group headquartered in Cape Town. It is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the Namibian Stock Exchange.

Wynand Hendrik Louw was a South African architect and with Gerard Moerdijk, with whom he was in partnership for several years, the first major African architect. He played an important role in the architectural scene of the first four decades of the twentieth century and in time he was regarded by the Afrikaans-speaking members of this profession as a patriarchal figure. As the first Afrikaans-speaking architect with his early works, Louw laid a solid foundation for the later extensive contribution of Afrikaans speakers to this profession. The numerous assignments he often had to perform alone, such as the 69 cities and towns he had to perform in 1925 in the performance of his professional duties, are surely an unparalleled achievement.

Louws business buildings for insurance companies such as Sanlam at Waal Street, Cape Town (1932, the famous Waalburg), and the Old Mutual in Darling Street, Cape Town, are seen as his most successful projects.

The SANTAM and SANLAM Building (now known as ‘Waalburg’), completed to the designs of Louw and Louw in the same year as the Commercial Union Building, is a case in point. Rising sheer from the street to a height of seven storeys, the impression of a dominant verticality is reinforced by the treatment of the pilaster-like bays, which terminate in a step-pyramid configuration. The spandrels in the bays are decorated with a variety of low-relief bronze and pre-cast concrete decorative panels which repeat across both the Wale and Burg Street elevations, succeeding, according to Die Huisgenoot (September 1932:47), in counteracting the potential for ‘monotony’ latent in the ‘simplicity that distinguishes a.building like this one’. Helen Suzman Boulevard is a motorway next to Protea Hotel Victoria Junction and is located in City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. Helen Suzman Boulevard has a length of 0.59 kilometres.
Part of the Helen Suzman Boulevard is abanded, the building of the flyover was stopped during development.

In 2011, the Western Boulevard was renamed to Helen Suzman Boulevard to honor Helen Suzman after the Eastern Boulevard was earlier renamed to Nelson Mandela Boulevard.

Helen Suzman was a South African anti-apartheid activist and politician. She represented a series of liberal and centre-left opposition parties during her 36-year tenure in the whites-only, National Party-controlled House of Assembly of South Africa at the height of apartheid.

She hosted the meeting that founded the Progressive Party in 1959, and was its only MP in the 160-member House for thirteen years. She was the only member of the South African Parliament to consistently and unequivocally oppose all apartheid legislation.

Suzman was instrumental in improving prison conditions for members of the banned African National Congress including Nelson Mandela, despite her reservations about Mandela’s revolutionary policies, and was also known for using her parliamentary privilege to evade government censorship and pass information to the media about the worst abuses of apartheid. She was twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Foreshore Freeway Bridge, also known as Cape Town’s Unfinished Bridge, is an incomplete section of what was intended to be the Eastern Boulevard Highway (now called the Helen Suzman Boulevard) in the city bowl of Cape Town, South Africa. Conceptualised and designed in the late 1960s, work began in the early 1970s with the freeway aimed at alleviating future traffic congestion in the city expected in the years to come. However, due to budget constraints in city expenditure at the time, the project never came to completion and has stood in its unfinished state since construction officially ended in 1977. While there has been much speculation in local press over the years regarding the freeway’s eventual conclusion, the city council has yet to come to a decision regarding the matter. The structure has become somewhat of a tourist attraction over the years and is also a popular movie and fashion shoot location.

The Transport for Cape Town initiative announced in 2012 sought the input of design students at the University of Cape Town to find an affordable solution to the unfinished bridge and during a presentation on April 14, 2014 at the Cape Town City Hall approximately 600 students exhibited their ideas. Some of these included planting trees on the overpass, turning it into a roller coaster or skate park, creating a street arcade below and also possibly some sort of waterway. Mayor Patricia de Lille, present at the exhibition said “it was important to use Cape Town’s designation as World Design Capital as an opportunity to think differently”. Once the exhibition closed UCT handed the students’ projects over to the Transport for Cape Town committee for evaluation with a decision yet to be announced.
