Varbergs Fästning is located on Sjöallén in Varberg, Sweden.

Varbergs fästning or Varberg Fortress is a former fortification in Varberg, Halland County, Sweden, which currently serves as a museum.

Varberg Fortress was built in 1287-1300 by Count Jacob Nielsen as protection against Eric VI of Denmark, who had declared him an outlaw after the murder of his father King Eric V of Denmark. Jacob had close connections with King Eric II of Norway and as a result got substantial Norwegian assistance with the construction. The fortress, as well as half the county, became Norwegian in 1305.[1] In the fourteenth century the fortress was expanded to include a castle.

King Erik’s grand daughter, Ingeborg Håkansdotter, inherited the area from her father, King Haakon V of Norway. She and her husband, Erik, Duke of Södermanland, established a semi-independent state out of their Norwegian, Swedish and Danish counties until the death of Erik. They spent considerable time at the fortress. Their son, King Magnus IV of Sweden (Magnus VII of Norway), spent much time at the fortress as well.

Varberg was besieged multiple times in the 16th century. Much of the original structure was destroyed as a result. The fortress was augmented during the late 16th and early 17th century on order by King Christian IV of Denmark. However, after the Treaty of Brömsebro in 1645 the fortress became Swedish. It was used as a military installation until 1830 and as a prison from the end of the 17th Century until 1931.

It is currently used as a museum and has a couple of notable pieces on permanent exhibit: Bocksten Man with the only complete clothing from the 1300s known to have been worn by a single individual, and the button that supposedly killed Charles XII of Sweden.

The fort also houses a bed and breakfast as well as private accommodation.

The moat of the fortress is said to be inhabited by a small lake monster. In August 2006, a couple of witnesses claimed to have seen the monster emerge from the dark water and devour a duck. The creature is described as brown, furless and with a 40 cm long tail.

Magasinet 2 is a housing complex located on Lärdomsgatan 12 in Vallastaden near Linköping, Sweden.

The architect describes: In the project Magasinet 2 in Vallastaden in Linköping has the concrete contractor Hökerum Bygg AB and we together developed visions, ideas and previous experiences around sustainable, honest housing that reflects our time. Now and for real. The concept for Magasinet 2 came originally from the city plan vision created by urban planning architects from OkiDoki!.

The plan vision gave room for difference, variation in expression and scale. They wanted a city of smaller units without conformity or 1960s Grand Social Rationalism.

2017 – Magasinet 2 on Lärdomsgatan in Linköping (own photo)

A kind of return to the medieval the city’s slow construction with many architectural expressions and one kind of general rudeness. A Swedish declaration of love for Brooklyn or Prague.

In a time of variation, change and individualization we wanted to create one soft concrete architecture that was not felt outdated neo-brutal and rationalist. One steps forward, a respect for a collective awareness and understanding for the fellow human being, the neighbor and the Swedish the history of concrete construction. The goal in the close cooperation between contractor and architect was to create new beautiful, creative home where the pure, natural the concrete element is proudly shaped and identity creation without white plastic film of paint. A respect for it rational prefabricated concrete method does not have to result in an architectural expressions of repetition, symmetry, hardness, coldness, boredom and power.

The prerequisite existed when the building contractor had the will to develop new ones casting methods with precision in housing for ordinary people who want to go outside of it usual. The varied facade with its vertical ribs, creating one during the present race changing expression in its shadow play in the facade and is the result of an eager and positive cooperation between contractor and architect.

Finding a balance between expression and production efficiency can one only succeeds when the ambition and the commitment is great and when the will and the sensitivity is there. A common will to do better as well as courage and faith that a project should succeed in creating one human and wonderful environment for generations.

This can only be created with good and durable materials. Real materials, such as concrete, wood and steel. Magasinet 2 is a brave building with inviting and exciting details and generous common areas. People in different stages in life should thrive and naturally meet in the places of community offers. Indoor pool, heated conservatory, long table, cultivation and apple trees in the showy garden. The project is not for everyone but for some. It is not generally without personal.

The small apartment building with its 14 apartments have, because it is a part of Vallastaden, allowed to contain many very unusual ingredients. The house has its very own swimming pool and pool relaxation room to strengthen the community in the house, a beautiful garden with small delicate farms and conservatory.

Gräfsnäs slottsruin is located at Kungsallén in Sollebrunn near Alingsås, Sweden.

It is easy to understand why Gräfsnäs castle ruin is one of the most popular attractions in the area. Here you can find a beautiful park, a big playground for children, beaches and a café.

The castle was built around year 1550 and has been an important place ever since. The castle has been qravaged by fire several times during the years, last in 1834. After that, the castle has gradually turned into a ruin.

During summer, the park lives up and there is a lot of activities going on. For example exhibitions with vintage cars, jousting events and concerts. This is also a perfect spot to have a picnic with friends and family. The whole park is very popular amongst children because of the playground, the beach, the short “love-trail” around the castle and the big, open spaces where they can run free.

Sockerbruket is located on Sjögatan in Helsingborg, Sweden. Today, it is the location of IKEA IT.

Helsingborg is a city and the seat of Helsingborg Municipality, Scania, Sweden. It has 113,816 inhabitants, making it the second-largest city in Skåne (after Malmö) and ninth-largest in Sweden. Helsingborg is the centre of the northern part of western Skåne and Sweden’s closest point to Denmark: the Danish city Helsingør is clearly visible about 4 km to the west on the other side of the Øresund. The HH Ferry route across the sound has more than 70 car ferry departures from each harbour every day.

Historic Helsingborg, with its many old buildings, is a scenic coastal city. The buildings are a blend of old-style stone-built churches and a 600-year-old medieval fortress (Kärnan) in the city centre, and more modern commercial buildings. The streets vary from wide avenues to small alley-ways. Kullagatan, the main pedestrian shopping street in the city, was the first pedestrian shopping street in Sweden.

Helsingborg is a major regional centre of trade, transport and business. In 2001 Campus Helsingborg, a branch of University of Lund, opened in the former Tretorn rubber factory buildings, founded by Henry Dunker. Three ferry companies take people and cargo to and from Denmark around the clock. The route is popular with day-trippers going to Helsingør or Copenhagen, or simply enjoying the views from the ferries. IKEA, the retailer of furniture and home interiors, has its international corporate headquarters in Helsingborg. Nicorette, the nicotine chewing gum, has a manufacturing plant there. Ramlösa is a mineral water from Ramlösa Brunn, a southern suburb of the city. Mobile phone developer Spectronic is also situated in Helsingborg. The online custom clothing retailer Tailor Store Sweden AB has its offices in Helsingborg. Zoégas, a major coffee company, has been located here since the 1800s.

Gillberga Natur- och Kulturbrott is located near Gillberga in Löttorp on Öland, Sweden.

A quarry where mining is taking place that supplies the stone industry in Sanvik with materials. In summer, cultural events also take place here from a stage that is set up next to the high limestone wall.

The place is well signposted from the coastal road and road 136. In the quarry there are information signs that describe the limestone’s exciting natural and cultural history. Fantastic views of Stenkusten , Kalmarsund and Blå Jungfrun frame the place.

The limestone on the site was formed during the Ordovician, ie a geological period that began about 480 million years ago and lasted until about 440 million years ago. Our continent was then south of the equator and in the then sea limestone sludge and remains of shell-bearing animals fell to the bottom. Over time, shells and limestone sludge were compressed into the rock limestone. It was slow processes. Geologists estimate that every millimeter of limestone represents about 1000 years. Here in Gillberga quarry, the walls are 17 meters high, ie they represent about 17 million years in the earth’s development. The color of the limestone varies from gray to red.

The Ölandsbron is a road bridge connecting Kalmar on mainland Sweden to Färjestaden on the island of Öland to its east. At 6,072 meters (19,921 ft) long, it is one of the longest in Europe. It is supported by 156 pillars, and has a characteristic hump at its western end which was created to provide a vertical clearance of 36 m for shipping.

While the Oresund Bridge linking Sweden with Denmark is longer overall, the Öland Bridge is the longest entirely in Swedish territory.

The Öland Bridge was inaugurated on 30 September 1972. Construction took 4.5 years, and about 100,000 cubic meters of concrete was used. The bridge was also prepared for transporting fresh water from the mainland to Öland. The bridge project received much support, but there were also protests. The main objection was that the bridge would threaten the environment, possibly causing a huge influx of tourists to Öland and its vulnerable and precious nature.
