Kongelig Dansk Yachtklub; (shortened KDY) at Langeliniepavillonen is a restaurant / banquet room built in 1954 by architects Eva and Nils Koppel. Located on Langelinie (hence the name) in Copenhagen close to the cruise ships and the little mermaid.

Here is a memorial to Ivar Huitfeldt, consisting of guns and bullets. The area is filled with Japanese cherry trees that bloom in April.

Langelinie pavilion as we know it today is actually the third pavilion in Copenhagen harbor. The first Langelinie Pavilion was built in 1884, but had already 18 years later give way to the next, built by the architect Fritz Koch in 1902. Koch’s pavilion was an impressive structure with octagonal towers, domed hall, large banquet hall and restaurant with seating for 300 people. The pavilion was popular with the bourgeoisie, and it was therefore a shock to many locals as it was blown up by on June 12 1944.

Many wanted after the war Langeliniepavillonen rebuilt in unchanged form, but by in 1954 architects Eva and Nils Koppel were chosen to propose a new functionalist and stylish pavilion. A floating glass box, airy and simple – in all ways a counterpart to the old Langelinie Pavilion.

Today the Langeliniepavillonens furniture, service and interior of a large part of the original. Two of Poul Henningsen’s famous lights – the big cone and plate lamp – is specifically designed for the pavilion and hangs here yet.

The pavilion is a protected site today.

Langeliniepavillonen 4

Langelinie Pavillonen has changed owners only 5 times since the opening in 1958 – a somewhat remarkable record in the restaurant business. Managing director Kai Jørgensen opened Langelinie Pavillonen in 1958 and succeeded in making it a noteworthy success for 20 years. It was sold in 1979 to restaurant owners Ole B. Nielsen and Benno Lauridsen, who managed it until 1994. It was then taken over by Michael Laudrup and shortly thereafter again by Kirsten Kruse, Torben Jensen and Phillipe Privat who continued its management until 2003. Peter and Jesper Nicolaisen took over the lovely Pavillon in 2003. Both are well known from earlier successes at Odd Fellow Palæet, Restaurant Bellahøj, Søpavillonen and numerous other restaurants.

Langeliniepavillonen 3

Royal Danish Yacht Club is based at the address of Langelinie, but have not been on Langeliniepavillonen since the winter of 1999/2000. This property is unfortunately not in a position to make that KDY may be present on the site. The club hopes that the owner of the property the City of Copenhagen will renovate the premises, so KDY again can take the premises in use for representative activities.

Östra Eriksbergsgatan is a street in the Eriksberg area in Göteborg. The building pictured above is built in 2008 and is owned by HSB, which rents apartment out to Brf Masten.

The house was designed by the same architect firm Clarion Hotel Post, characterized by a high standard with a cozy lobby, carpeted floors and the fantastic roof terrace which members have access to. There you can enjoy the sun, and sweeping views of the harbor entrance.

HSB Ostra-Eriksbergsgatan

Bostadsrättsföreningen Masten on Eriksbergsvägen was completed in 2008 with 54 apartments. Developers, HSB Göteborg and architect, Semrén & Månsson. Right from the start there was the idea that Brf Masten would be built for meetings. There is room for a sitting area in the main entrance and a communal roof terrace. The balconies are a little crooked on the front so you can see the neighbors. The idea is that you will feel at home at the entrance, and might not be in such a hurry to close the door to his room.

Kvarnpirsgatan is a street in the Eriksberg area in Göteborg.

Eriksberg is an area on Hisingen in Gothenburg where Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB had their shipyard until bankruptcy in 1979. For over a century the area was dominated by shipbuilding but a crisis in the 1970s destroyed the industry.

Cafe Kvarnpiren

Since the collapse of the shipyards, the area has been rebuilt into Gothenburg’s finest modern neighbourhood. The former machinery buildings have been renovated into a hotel with conference facilities. An 84 metre high gantry crane – the Eriksberg crane – stands as a remnant of the area’s shipbuilding past.
A large grass area, now used for apartment buildings, was used for concerts with world class artists around 1986-1990 (when Ullevi was closed for such concerts). Among superstars, Michael Jackson performed here in 1988, U2 in 1987, and Rolling Stones and Madonna in 1990.

Särö is a locality situated in Kungsbacka Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, with 3,165 inhabitants in 2010.

It is located south of Gothenburg on the Särö peninsula, and is famous for its golf and tennis history.

Geographically, the peninsula marks the transition from the Bohuslän archipelago in the north and the long, flat Halland coast in the south. The nature reserve Särö Västerskog is located nearby.

Originally an agricultural area, Särö became most popular during the end of the 19th century when the upper class of nearby Gothenburg started to use the peninsula as a summer resort. A railway from central Gothenburg was built, and the kings Oscar II and Gustav V frequented the locality summertime.

Today, Särö is an affluent suburb to Gothenburg and Kungsbacka. It can be reached by car or by bus.

In the summer, but also spring or autumn, the restaurant Blomstermåla is a popular place to visit for lunch or dinner. The views towards the water, from inside or outside are wonderfull!

On Särö, there are two forested mountain heights, Västerskog and Nordanskog. Topographically belongs Särö the Bohuslän rocky coastal landscape. The nature reserve Särö Västerskog are relics of the Bronze Age deciduous forests, which once covered much of the west coast, and there are nice walking paths and great views. The vegetation is unique for Halland with Yew. Nordanskog have a similar vegetation, but more the character of wilderness.

Nääs Fabriker was a cotton factory with textile industry near Lake Sävelången. Today the Nääs Fabriker is a hotel, restaurant and conference center on a short distance from Göteborg.

2013 – Nääs Fabriken as seen from the motorway E20 (Google Streetview)

The history of the area started on 6 October 1773, when Nääs Fabriker’s founder, Peter Wilhelm Berg, first saw the light of day. Peter lost his father early on and grew into a driven young man who is said to have walked all the way to Gothenburg at the age of 13.

Nääs Båthuset 1

There he started work as a shop assistant, and over the years developed into an enterprising merchant. During the Napoleonic War, he managed to break through the British blockade of Danish ports, getting four vessels laden with coffee, sugar and flour into Århus. This put the Danish state hugely in his debt, and they paid that debt in 1823, making Peter a very rich man.

Nääs from the water

At Easter 1825 Peter Wilhelm Berg, then aged 52, moved to Nääs with his family, marking the start of a new chapter in the history of the whole Nääs, Skallsjö and Tollered area. As a highly innovative and creative individual, Peter immediately launched himself into huge development projects in the Nääs area. For example, he had a large brickworks built next to Nääs Castle, able to fire up to 40,000 bricks at a time. This would prove extremely useful later when it came to building the factories known as Nääs Fabriker.

Peter Wilhelm soon discovered that there was a waterfall in Tollered, between Torskabotten and Sävelången, with a drop of around 60 metres. He immediately turned his mind to ways of using this natural resource to drive his industrial ambitions.

At this time, Sweden lifted its ban on cotton imports, first established to protect the domestic market for wool and linen. In Britain various new textile machines had been invented and demand for cotton thread was growing, which is probably why Peter Wilhelm decided to set up a cotton mill on the waters of Tollered Ström.

With a lot of help from his son Johan Theodor Berg, he had the first factory built in 1833, chiefly using bricks made at his own brickworks in Nääs. This was an unusual building material, replacing the more commonly used timber. Captain Johan Theodor, who at this time was 26 years old, played a vital role in constructing and running the factory. He left Stockholm and his military commission to travel home and help his father. He designed the buildings and, while they were being built, he travelled around Europe studying and buying various spinning and weaving machines. There was a ban on the export of textile machines from Britain, but he still managed to buy and ship home a large number of machines. He also designed some machines himself and had them built on site.

Magasin du Nord is a Danish chain of department stores. Its flagship store is located on Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen. The company is a subsidiary of the British department store retailer Debenhams.

The company traces its roots back to 1868 when Theodor Wessel and Emil Vett opened a draper’s shop in Aarhus under the name Emil Vett & Co. It was an immediate success and in 1871 moved to Immervad where the Aarhus store is still located, as shown on the pictures above.

MagasinDK

In 1870 the company opened a shop in Copenhagen in rented rooms in the mondain Hotel du Nord on Kongens Nytorv where Hans Christian Andersen had borded from 1838 until 1847. The shop occupied an ever larger part of the hotel and the company adopted the name Magasin du Nord after it in 1879. In 1876 the two owners also founded a textile manufactury in Nørrebro, Vett, Wessel & Fiala, which later moved to Østerbro where it also produced textiles for furniture. The factory has now been demolished.

By 1889, Magasin du Nord had taken over the entire hotel. It was demolished in 1893 together with a neighbouring building and the current department store building was completed the following year in a French Renaissance Revival style to designs by the architects Henri Glæsel and Albert Jensen. The executive architect was Olaus Mynster.

The company opened branches throughout Denmark. In 1892, it had 50 stores all over the country and by 1906 the number had grown to 98. In 1911 the Th. Wessel & Vett branch followed in Malmö. The company was listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 1952 and the strategy was changed to having fewer, large department stores.

Ocean Beach is located in the community of Ocean Beach. This is a wide beach, approximately one mile long, broken up by several rock jetties. A volleyball area can be found near the north end of the beach.

Dog Beach, San Diegos only 24 hour beach for dogs, is a sandy area at the north end of the beach. This is a dog run area where dogs are permitted without a leash at all hours of the day. Dog owners are responsible for control and clean-up of their dogs. Standard dog laws apply on other portions of Ocean Beach and are strictly enforced.

The Ocean Beach Municipal Pier is at the south end of the beach and is available to the public for walking and fishing. There is a restaurant and bait shop on the pier. Fishing from the pier does not require a fishing license, but catch regulations are enforced.

Ocean Beach (also known as O.B.) is a beachfront neighborhood of San Diego, California.

Surfing was introduced to San Diego at Ocean Beach in 1916 when a local lifeguard borrowed a board from Duke Kahanamoku (although it’s possible that George Freeth surfed there between 1907 and 1909). By 1966, the sport was sufficiently established that the World Surfing Championship was held in O.B. Nat Young won the event and was named world surfing champion.

The Ocean Beach Municipal Pier, built in 1966, is the longest concrete pier on the West Coast at 1,971 feet (601 m).[25] The pier, which alone amongst the piers of San Diego supports a restaurant and a bait shop, is at the south end of the beach. It is open 24 hours a day. A concrete walkway spans part of the length of the 1 mile (1.6 km) beach.

The northern end of O.B.’s waterfront is known as Dog Beach. It’s open 24 hours a day for leash-free dogs and was one of the first such beaches in the United States (founded in 1972).

Eremitageslottet or Eremitagen (or the Hermitage Palace or Hermitage Hunting Lodge) is located in Dyrehaven, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The palace was built by architect Lauritz de Thurah in Baroque style from 1734 to 1736 for Christian VI of Denmark in order to host royal banquets during royal hunts in Dyrehaven.

c105bf5e98

Dyrehaven (Danish ‘The Deer Park’), officially Jægersborg Dyrehave, is a forest park north of Copenhagen. It covers around 11 square kilometres. Dyrehaven is noted for its mixture of huge, ancient oak trees and large populations of red and fallow deer.

All entrances to the park have a characteristic red gate; one of the most popular entrances is Klampenborg gate, close to Klampenborg station. All the entrance gates have an identical gate house attached to them, which serve as the residences of the forest wardens. Dyrehaven is maintained as a natural forest, with the emphasis on the natural development of the woods over commercial forestry. Old trees are felled only if they are a danger to the public. It has herds of about 2100 deer in total, with 300 Red Deer, 1700 Fallow Deer and 100 Sika Deer. Dyrehaven is also the venue for the Hermitage road race (Eremitageløbet) and the yearly Hubertus hunt (Hubertusjagten) which is held on the first Sunday in November. In former times it was home to the Fortunløbet race, later known as Ermelundsløbet, but this race was discontinued in 1960.
