Treasure Island is an artificial island in the San Francisco Bay between San Francisco and Oakland, and an emerging neighborhood of San Francisco. The island is entirely within the City and County of San Francisco, whose territory extends far into San Francisco Bay and includes a tip of Alameda Island. Treasure Island is connected by a small isthmus to Yerba Buena Island.

The island is named after the novel Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson, who lived in San Francisco from 1879 to 1880.

SFfromTI

Treasure Island was created in 1936 and 1937, from fill dredged from the bay, for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. The island is now a California Historical Landmark, honoring the site of the exposition.

Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad) is the second-most populated city in South Africa after Johannesburg. The city is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, as well as for such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point.

Located on the shore of Table Bay, Cape Town was originally developed by the Dutch East India Company as a supply station for Dutch ships sailing to East Africa, India, and the Far East. Jan van Riebeeck’s arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the economic and cultural hub of the Cape Colony. Until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the development of Johannesburg, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa.

Today it is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa. As of 2011 the metropolitan region had an estimated population of 3.74 million. The city was named the World Design Capital for 2014 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design.

The Opernplatz (Opera Square) is a square in the northwestern city of Frankfurt am Main.

Pull down or rebuild: For years the fate of ‘Germany’s most beautiful ruin’ was under discussion. But the people of Frankfurt provided an example of civic appreciation and on how to deal with historical heritage. Thanks to civic protests and generous donations the representative building from the Wilhelminian era, which had been bombed down to its foundation walls, was faithfully rebuilt to the original. On 28th August 1981, the inauguration of the Old Opera House was celebrated.

The inscription on the magnificent facade of Frankfurt’s Old Opera House reads “Dem Wahren Schönen Guten” – “To the true, the beautiful, the good”, and the Opernplatzfest – a culinary festival in Frankfurt’s Opera Square – certainly holds true to this principle. It pays homage to what is aone of the most beautiful squares in Frankfurt, filling the city space with urbanity and pure vitality. This feast for the senses offers visitors colourful culinary delights and a wonderfully diverse stage programme featuring everything from jazz to pop music.

The Untermainbrücke (Lower Main Bridge) is a road bridge over the Main river in Frankfurt. It connects the Neue Mainzer Strasse in the city center with the Swiss road in Sachsenhausen. It was from 1872 to 1874 built by Peter Schmick, but blown up on 26 March 1945. During 1948 and 1949 it was rebuilt.

Again in 1989 and 1990, the bridge was demolished and rebuilt as part of a total renovation to the bridge piers.

The city of Frankfurt is also named Mainhattan, because of the river Main and the skyline.

Although “Mainhattan” is about 100 high-rise buildings short of its American almost-namesake, it remains one of the few European cities that can boast a significant skyline. More than 300 banks are located on the River Main, among them the European Central Bank, 150 foreign banks, and the fourth largest stock exchange in the world. Because of the city’s financial potency, the more than 700,000 inhabitantS can choose from an extremely high concentration of available jobs.

Ekeberg is a hill and a neighborhood in the city of Oslo, Norway. From the Ekeberg Restaurant, you have a wonderfull view over downtown Oslo with Rådhus and Barcode.

The painting “The Scream” by Edvard Munch is painted from Utsikten (“the view”), a part of Ekeberg. (More)

In the area are a number of old Iron Age grave mounds and Bronze Age ritual sites. This establish the area of Ekeberg as one of the oldest inhabited places around Oslo. During the Middle Ages, the farm of Ekeberg belonged to Hovedøya Abbey. The area was later taken by the crown.

From 1760, the farm of Ekeberg was run by an appointed owner, and his relatives owned the farm thereafter. In the area, a number of small homesteads under the main farm was erected the following century. The first suburban settlement came around 1900, and the early suburb was raised in the years prior to 1935. Many of the early houses are still present in the area. Ekeberg belonged to Oslo from 1947.
In 1926 Roald Amundsen’s airship Norge, was on its way from Italy to Svalbard, stopped in Oslo, mooring at Ekeberg at a specially-constructed mast, the foundation of which can still be seen today at the north end of the park.

The Ekeberg Restaurant is a populair place in the summer to meet people and get a nice view over Oslo.

Ekeberg Restaurant Terrace

The original restaurant had been built in 1916 by Tiedemanns Tobakksfabrikk, a manufacturer of tobacco products.

In 1929, one of Europe’s foremost functionalist buildings was complete, to the delight of the entire population of Oslo. The building is listed today and the renovation has concentrated on conserving the classic, whilst modernising for a new age.

In the late nineties, the building was restored, by restaurateur Bjørn Tore Furset and a modern building which retained all its classic features was created. The new building contains several restaurants, a bar/lounge, conference and meeting facilities, banqueting and wedding suites and a beautiful second floor veranda.

Design Post in Köln is a showroom for design aficionados, a boulevard for aesthetes and a source of inspiration for design industry professionals.

Design Post Köln can be found at the Deutz-Mülheimer Straße 22 in 50679 Köln, Germany.
Design Post Köln is right opposite to Köln Messe / Osthallen / entrance East.

Design Post Köln

Exclusive international interior design brands present their current trends in the historic halls of a former post office in the Deutz quarter of Cologne. Visitors are invited to explore an extensive product range by renowned furniture, lighting and textiles manufacturers. With regularly changing exhibitions, a visit to Design Post is guaranteed to deliver new ideas and inspiration. The products cannot be purchased directly; instead the focus is very much on qualified advice and consulting. This makes Design Post an inspiring place for both end users who want to explore new interior trends in a relaxing environment and for retailers and architects who may come to Design Post with clients and project owners to flesh out their plans.

The seven so-called Dreigelenkbogenhallen (three-joint arcade halls), commissioned by the Post Office and built in 1913, were elaborately modernised with great attention paid to their historical significance and remodelled into a large, bright exhibition building in 2005. Originally a parcel distribution centre, they are located directly opposite the Cologne-Deutz railway station and the trade fair grounds.

Design Post Old

Its architectural quality and generous space make this building a monument worthy of preservation. The plan for its renovation and new intended use was developed with great care and inspiration. The architects of the planning office that was subcontracted for the project, O III architecten in Amsterdam, recognised the opportunity to preserve the building: it was a chance to build a space with an extraordinary atmosphere that is ideal for exhibitions and events.
